I would take two of these, and use the first one asap and go as far with it as possible, and then use the second as soon as i get hit. BUT the flower also gives him an extra hit (or two, idr if when losing a flower you just lose the power or if you lose the power AND become small, but the point remains). Mario can only shoot when he has the flower. In order to understand why the flower is best in this situation lets think about what DJG does. If I'm Mario, considering the race style, I would instead go for the Flower twice, OR if you feel so inclined a star and a flower. Most people see this and immediately think "I will go for the stars". Powerups - Mario is given any two powerups. For Mario he has to think about timing, plus the extra fractions of a second each platform it takes him. While this may seem like a small advantage, given very skilled players controlling them, or probably more accurately just a long game this compounds, especially when you think that all the moving platforms are timed for the bounce timing, where when DJG is at his peak height, the platform is where it needs to be. As soon as DJG lands he bounces again, while Mario has to hit a button, so he doesn't bounce, he jumps. Here Mario's control comes in again, but not necessarily as a good thing this time. Overall Speed - I think it would be safe to assume DJG's jump/bounce is equivalent height as Mario's (just to make things easier). In a standard DJG map doing a DJG race I give the advantage to DJG, for a few reasons. Here I give the advantage again to Mario, for all of these reasons, though I don't think it would be out of the question for DJG to win, maybe 70-30. Not to mention the fact that this is similar to the Super Smash Bros map Summit, so DJG's one advantage (home field turf) is minimized. Also, IIRC then Mario if he gets hit only loses the powerup the first time, and becomes small. He can stop and wait a second making his timing easier. Mario would probably have better overall control though as he isn't constantly bouncing. I would go with classic fireball Mario powerup for Mario, but the problem here is DJG can shoot straight seemingly forever whereas Mario's fireballs bounce somewhat. Plus Mario has been taking down Bowser and DK by just jumping for years, but DJG only has weird 1 or 2 hit monsters, he just doesn't have the experience. If the 'flat' land is actually platform I still give it to Mario since he controls his jump timing. Flat land goes without a doubt to Mario, as far as I can tell DJG can't jump on his own accord (it seems like he bounces more off of platforms than actually jumps from them).
